At 5:02 pm +0800 30/5/98, Sandra Bowdler wrote of newspaper reports that
Yvonne Kenny is preparing the role of Armida in Handel's 1711 opera
>*Rinaldo* for Opera Australia next year.

This seems to herald a riot of Rinaldo productions: Cecilia Bartoli and the
Academy of Ancient Music under Christopher Hogwood are laying down a
recording, and have plans for a tour round Europe next year, with a
definite date in Paris in January 1999, plus likely appearances in at least
Vienna and London.

Then, in 2000, with a revival in 2001, Munich is planning its own staged
production with the extremely exciting prospect of David Daniels in the
title role.

Quick plug: to find out what's coming up in the Handel heavens, turn to

and the latest prospects are on:

which inlcudes the following recent additions:

One of Europe's best period practice orchestras makes its US debut; one of
the two concerts is strong on Handel, with soprano Emma Kirkby singing the
cantata 'Armida abbandonata', and the ravishing air "Sweet Bird" from
L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato, plus a Concerto Grosso, not to
mention works by Boyce, Vivaldi and JS Bach. It's on 4 August 1998 at 8 pm
at Alice Tully Hall, NYC. Tickets costs $35 and $20.

Also in the USA, Aston Magna festival repeats its 1707 version of Il
Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno at Annandale-on-Hudson, NY and Great
Barrington, MA this summer

Performances of Joseph and His Brethren and Saul in Berlin, Germany, in June

Orlando and Poro in London this year

Sophie Daneman reprising her CD role as Rodelinda at Maastricht, Holland,
in April 1999

Jephtha in May 1999 and Susanna in 14 June 1999, at Poissy, France. And a
possible Radamisto in 1999/2000 in the UK from Opera North.

Cheers
