Hi..Nice to hear John speak of the incredible Fedora Barbieri..that COLPO
DI CANNONE voice that ROCKED the Met in the 50's. I love Zajick, Simionato,
Stignani, Cossotto,Verrett..but Fedora OWNED this opera......and when I
once saw her backstage in 1976 after a Trittico and reminded her of her act
three wildness...she launched imemdiately into,"Deh rallentati,o barbari"
right in the dressing room! O sante memorie!!!!!!
Maybe Irene Minghini-Cattaneo would be the second greatest in this
role...but Fedora was fedora...and one of the richest, most magnificent
natural mezzo voices of the century...

Reading these reviews of the Travestore at the met (small "m") all you
had to do was look at the cast (except for Zajick) and you KNEW what it
would be.....They have some noive!!!!!!

  as ever CH
