It was a dark and stormy night tonight in Bloomington, Indiana, but for
those who braved the weather to attend the IU Opera Theater we were
treated to an incredible production of MADAMA BUTTERFLY.

It's too late to give a full report of the evening, but dear list,
remember the name Itsuko Shibata who sang Butterfly. In a near-perfect
performance she held us spellbound from her first notes offstage till
the final death scene. Such a voice, and such pathos! She must have had
nearly half the audience in tears by the final curtain, including some
of us who considered ourselves too jaded to be so moved by this oft-seen
tear-jerker.

Christy Lynn Brown gave a marvellous performance as well as Suzuki.

Let us hope these two young sopranos enjoy long and distinguished
careers.
