Subject: Covent Garden "La Traviata" casting humor

Hi list -

The casting of Gheorghiu and Alagna in "La Traviata" should be worth
some visual laughs:

Ms. Gheorghiu is VERY tall, 5'10" at least. Mr. Alagna, while
certainly a good match for Ms. G. in attractiveness, is only about
5'5". I hope he can walk in high heels!

BTW, if you look closely in the Solti/Gheorghiu/Lopardo La Traviata
video, Mr. Lopardo is wearing built-up boots, also with high heels!
Shades of (the artist formerly known as) Prince! ;-)

This appears to have been an ongoing trend in opera - Madame Tebaldi
always had the same problem of her leading men being a head shorter
than she.

Go figure.

Regards,
Lee Nunley
