I think that your resident is remembering Pasadena Civic Auditorium. It's
not quite on Colorado Blvd, but is one block over on Green Street.
(Colorado is the main thoroughfare of Pasadena.) Pasadena Civic still
exists, now as a part of the Pasadena Center, which includes a convention
center complex. The Plaza Pasadena mall is now situated between it and
Colorado Blvd. I grew up in the area in the 1950s-1960s and attended
performances at Pasadena Civic by the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera and
the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Both organizations had Pasadena seasons at
that time which probably extended back into the 1940s. Tibbett might well
have appeared at a LAPO concert in the 1940s.
