Well, sort of--Philadelphia's Metropolitan Opera House has reopened
after renovations. The house was built in 1908 by Oscar Hammerstein (has
anyone ever built more opera houses?) and after years as an opera house
served as a movie theater, concert hall, basketball and boxing stadium,
a church, and a recording venue for the Philadelphia Orchestra. It
reopened Monday after a $56 million refurbishment--perhaps
appropriately, given its age and history, with a Bob Dylan concert.

It's scheduled offerings do not include opera, but it's still terrific
to see old venues reborn.
