It is not surprising that the recent WSJ article by Terry Teachout has been carefully
avoided here. In today's, we have a summary of his plea for
new, innovative leadership at the helm of America's leading companies. The MA
article also includes warnings from Heidi Waleson's new book about those giant
theaters and traditional rep. If Waleson is now among the voices for change,
perhaps it is time to start thinking about it. Another detail: "US adults who attend
at least one operatic performance each year dropped by nearly a third, from 3.2 in
2002 to 2.2 in 2017."

Those Trumpian comments from Gelb that the same thing is happening in Europe
are, of course, a flat-out lie and he knows it.
