You don't need to run for cover. What you do need is a lecture on what it takes to sing opera on stage in a complete performance. It takes more than the ability to sing loud and in tune.There have been many singers who could manage getting through an aria safely and even pronouncing foreign words tolerably, but, they would not be able to get through an operatic performance.. Lanza , when amplified for film, sounded magnificent. Even though he had no clue just what he was singing about. Opera is an ensemble  effort with the hope of portraying a character in a story. Pavarotti, with all his vocal splendor, was not a good opera performer. It was all about him singing loud and long. End of lecture. Now, you and I can run for cover.
