Who cares what other people think.  Conductors make choices and you either
like them or you don't.  I don't particularly care for Bernstein, but I
understand that many people posing as musical sophisticates do.

Levine was just so much better, IMHO, than every other American conductor of
his generation.  One must go back to Ormandy to find anyone close.  He was
also head and shoulders above everyone they paraded through the Met Pit
until maybe the last year or two. (This could be due to the orchestra being
aware that they were playing for their boss, but it could also be due to the
possibility that their boss knew  what he was doing.)
