It's not the reporting of the remark that gets me so angry, it's Peter Gelb 
and his instantaneous reaction to this horrid belief that this thing happened 
just as the person said it did instead of taking the time to ask choristers 
etc. their version, before popping the cork.

No! He stepped right into the pot (shades of Klinghoffer) because he is 
much more terrified of the possible ramifications to his Met than he is 
sensitive to a worthy, beloved, elderly human being with a wry sense of
