Well, it was bound to happen -- the first season since 1964 when there is
nothing at the Lyric I am interested in seeing.  The sea-sick making
wobbling of Nina Stemme as Elektra, the voiceless Eric Owens as Wotan.  The
Lyric has become a sad joke, the company where once you could have heard
Callas as Norma one night and Tebaldi as Tosca the next, and where Cornell
MacNeil sang the Prologue in 'Pagliacci' to spare the Tonio, Tito Gobbi, the
high notes.
