I expect that many of the good burghers on this list will find the
following comments shocking ... shocking! ... in their impudence but
tant pis.

What 'would be best', to 'put some finality' and provide a 'graceful
exit' would of course be if the reportedly long-ailing Jimmy would
conveniently die; can't get more 'permanent' than that. Then they could
lionise him at his funeral and all the alleged nastiness would be
relegated to a footnote. 

I haven't the slightest doubt that others have been thinking the same.
