Peter Hall directed Ewing's Carmen, explaining to her that Carmen was not
guilty of anything, she was just thoroughly passive and disinterested. It
came across as dead-from-the-neck-up. It was his feeling about Dido as well
- woman as clean slate who reacts, rather than acts.
What bullshit.
