According to the Met's website, Act 1 is 121 minutes, then there's a 30 minute intermission, followed by Act 2 at 89 minutes.

If the rumor is true, then I pity those people who attend who suffer from sciatica, arthritis, bladder problems, and the like. That's a helluva a long time to sit through ANYTHING.  The Met couldn't be that stupid.
