Since it manages to closely duplicate the sheer excitement & thrill of a 
live performance, & the soloists (DelMonaco, Tebaldi, Bastianini) are in 
prime vocal condition, my vote goes to the mid-50's London recording of 
Andrea Chenier, one great verismo masterpiece.
