Very good writing, coverage James (James Jorden, Observer) on the new Tosca at the Met,
but chief fiasco of the Gelb era instead of the 2009 Tosca really should go to the Robert
LePage production of the Ring, with in second place hard to choose between Eyre's Carmen,
Nozze di Figaro and Manon Lescaut, the Hytner Don Carlo, the Las Vegas Rigoletto, then the
Bartlett Sher Comte Ory and Zimmerman Sonnambula. The recent new Norma has been
nothing in which to take any pride in for the company either.

A fairly recent Don Giovanni (Marthe Kerr), like the Bondy Tosca, also got unjustifiably
maligned by Peter Gelb, then very uselessly replaced by the Met's current production (Michael
Grandage), lifeless and ugly though not quite as inert as the LePage Ring.
