With all the denunciation of James Levine, now Charles Dutoit (stuff people have known
about him dating as far back as 1984, but also a damn good conductor), and most (very)
likely the fake allegation against Joseph Colaneri, why nothing regarding Christoph
Eschenbach? There was much talk here among people on the inside of what was going on
here, but the Houston Symphony went out of their way to make sure none of it would get
into our newspapers - and it most certainly did not. As an aside, Colaneri, at least after the
Norma, is hardly any good either, but no reason to believe some sociopath out there, most
likely it is, out to destroy him, raising totally spurious allegations against him.

A myth still persists today, at least very recently, that he did much good for Houston, yet if
you were to talk to several individual players here, any one among them would tell you he
ruined the orchestra here. I did not at all like Comissiona and got a little taken in by
Eschenbach the first couple of years he was here, but especially under any good guest
conductor during most of the 1980's they certainly played better than they did during the
era that followed.

Check out Slipped Disc, Norman Lebrecht's blog or website for further details, though, as an
aside here, there is not much to do regarding pedophilia in terms of mentioning anybody at
all over there.
