Hi Idia

I don't mean to put words in your mouth, so to speak, but
I think you may actually mean "extended solo passages" rather
than "arias" and I would certainly agree that Don Carlo gets
short changed in that category. But there are many Verdi
roles that feature NO arias - Amneris comes immediately to mind.
The Judgment Scene contains among the most impressive vocal
wrting in all opera but it is not an aria. Amonasro has none either,
btw, and Mistress Ford and, and, and.......Simon Boccanegra and..

But -
back to your original thought, I find the relative lack of solo exposure
in Don Carlo's music a puzzlement. About that we are in total
