My understanding is that Gelb received the police report a year ago and did
nothing; certainly he continued to plan to use Levine moving forward from
the date of the official police report (leaving aside any previous
indications management might have received). Gelb failed to act when he had
the police report in hand--a report which undoubtedly paralleled more
informal reports and allegations.

It was only on the NYT report that he suddenly decided that the Met had to
take action.

The question is, why not begin the internal investigation a year ago when
the police alerted him? Why wait? Is this leadership?

And as for the board.....

The Met is his major employer.

They’ve suspended Levine on the reports, but need to perform an
investigation of their own before they determine if the suspension is
permanent, if he’s owed wages or other compensation during the suspension
and if he’s eligible for severance and any other extension of retirement or
medical benefits.

They need results of an objective investigation by their own HR people
before they can determine any of these things in a way compliant with labor
law.
