I want to put in a word for a great tenor who is rarely mentioned on this List: Alfred Piccaver
(1884-1958). He was born in England and raised in America, but sang mostly in Vienna,
where he was a big star. He had superb legato and a good range and was capable of
exquisite soft singing in the upper register. (His quiet ending to "Celeste Aida" is one of the
best on records.) He also sang a huge repertoire.

Here is Piccaver singing Tosti's "Ideale:"

Check out some of his other recordings on youtube. Piccaver was a great singer and too
seldom mentioned in discussions of great tenors.
