This has the ring of authenticity, unlike the dubious notion of
a Halloween opera, and it is dated almost a decade before
the farcical attempt by Peter Hall to turn Verdi's MACBETH
into an excuse for decking the Met stage with witches on
broomsticks and goblins in cauldrons. Great cast too; what
was it about?
