Maybe if the rest of the audience refrained from the one or two who have
premature appreciation? You know, it's not a competition and if one soul
decides his or her approval needs to be the first sign of personal
satisfaction as the music plays on, we don't have to join in.

That's part of the problem, isn't it? The rest of us know better but by
golly if one person is cheering then it seems to set us all off. Imagine
how different it would be if that lone person remained the lone person until
the appropriate time. Perhaps after enough experiences, maybe that lone
person would be shamed into silence so he or she doesn't ruin the moment for
the rest of us.

And it would ever so much easier to find that voice and perhaps, after the
opera was over, to approach and educate?????

Plus, some people are just going to do what they always do. You could put
"please don't
applaud yet" up on the supertitles and some people will still applaud
