With respect, perhaps they believe opera is feminine? That's a silly answer 
to a silly question. It is silly to speak of violence against women when the 
image is of violence against both sexes and is only metaphoric in the first 
place. Opera as envisioned causes neither male nor female audience members 
physical harm.
