I think Caterina Mancini goes from just enough to mediocre  because her voice is not ductile at all, she is very limited in dynamics ,(  Victoria De Los Angeles was  limited in both voice and technique,  she had no dymanics and strident glassy high notes , when De Los Angeles attemped a pp  unlikely event, the sound became opaque and fisso, in forte the high notes were hard and strident, The voice was caressing, that's true ... and it also showed a bit of ease in the agility, Sensitive and intelligent woman).Anita Cerquetti  yes, I like her, she has a great voice really, she is much better than Mancini,   but also Cerquetti technique is incomplete, she sings strict , she  has no very good breath control ,sometimes she gives up support, I like beauty of Cerquetti's voice, but especially in her 1956 Florence Don Carlo and in Norma 1958 you can hear false high tones ,mediocre top pianos like without idea of singing them ,her forte top is without good balance ,especially in forte,is out of weight ,like Caniglia's sometimes produced. Many falses and not so wise singing. , the final of Tu che le vanita is full of falses and her top note is completely flatBut the voice was of great beauty but who cares if 4 years later in 1960 she was only 29 and she was real disaster as Abigaille in Nabucco.Nearby Scotto's one and late career of Souliotis it is the example of worst singing having relatively young age

Helen Traubel
Anita Cerquetti
Jan Peerce
Caterina Mancini
Robert Weede
John Charles Thomas
and many others

They were all well known to an International audience
but none of them had what would be called "big" or
"important" international careers., often by choice.

Bob
