Dear Listers,

On the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of Maria Callas’s demise, several exhibitions 
dedicated to her memory are being held simultaneously in both Paris and Milan.  Listers 
traveling to these cities may wish to visit these exhibitions.


“Sempre Libera ! : Maria Callas à La Scala”
Italian Cultural Institute - Istituto Italiano di Cultura, located in the exquisite 18th-century 
Hôtel de Galiffet (not a hotel but what the Italians would call a “palazzo”), 50 rue de 
Varenne, Paris (VIIth Arr.)
A joint project of the Istituto and the Accademia Teatro alla Scala.
Open 13 Sep.-3 Oct., Mon-Fri, 10:00-13:00; 15:00-18:00, admission free

“Maria by Callas”
Featuring photographs, videos, recordings, costumes, letters, memorabilia, and private, 
never-seen-previously home movies of Maria Callas made by Princess Grace of Monaco, and 
other goodies
Location:  La Seine Musicale, a stunning new musical venue opened just this year by 
billionaire François Pinault on the island in the Seine that used to house the main Renault 
Open Sep. 16-Dec. 14, Tue-Sun 11:00-19:00, admission €9-€14.50
Île Seguin, 92100 Boulogne-Billancourt
Métro: Pont de Sèvres (Line 9), or Tram T2 from Porte de Versailles: Brimborion stop (the 
latter recommended only for travelers fluent in French and familiar with Paris)


“Maria Callas in Scena – Gli Anni alla Scala”
Museo Teatrale alla Scala, Teatro alla Scala
Open daily Sep. 15-Jan. 31 from 9:00 to 17:30.  Tickets to the Museo Teatrale alla Scala are 
€9 full price, €6 reduced price (people over 65, children).
