Subject: Re: [OPERA-L] Met Broadcasts We Wish We Had

I can't recall any performance by the NY Philharmonic of DON JUAN
that excited me as much as Bohm's with the Met Orchestra.

If anyone was ever worried about whether or not Strauss and Puccini
would turn out to be acceptable "bedfellows", all they had to do was
stay away. I feel slightly cheated by paying full price for a short
evening.

I think the case could be made for presenting the best acts of two
different operas on some occasions. I remember a wonderful James
Levine pairing of DIE WALKUERE ACT ONE and PARSIFAL ACT
TWO, in concert, with Rysanek and Hoffmann. Even better, for my
money, would be a fully staged WALKUERE ACT ONE followed by
DIE MEISTERSINGER ACT THREE. Not for "newbies" maybe, but
I bet there are enough experienced opera-goers around to make that
combination a sellout.
