Amelia was, but with TROVATORE I imagine the issue was agility; a number of sopranos who were not dramatics sang Elisabetta in Tebaldi's generation and before: Steber did so at the Met, Stella on records and in the theatre. Frances Peralta, another lirico-spinto, sang it at the Met in the 20s.
