Your silence was "Golden"-LOL! Years ago I went to see a Victoria de los Angeles recital with Alicia de la Rocca at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. A guy at the box office wanted to return his ticket because he thought he was going to a Los Angeles Philharmonic concert.

Subject: Re: [OPERA-L] Overheard at Otello screening

This reminds me of something that I witnessed at Lyric Opera of Chicago quite a few years ago. The opera being presented was Wagner's "Parsifal". The curtain was about to go up on the Klingsor Garden Scene. Two ladies were sitting in back of me, and one of them asked, "Is this where we get to see the Gypsy girl do that sexy dance and song and throw the soldier her flower?" "No,said the other woman, "that's Carmen. This is the opera where you see the clown kill his wife at the end and you hear the Pagelachi song."

I was bereft of words and for one of the rare times, remained absolutely silent.
