Les

If you want to hear Renata Tebaldi when she could actually sing without
any flatting above the staff, try to hear her 1953 recording of Maddalena in
Andrea Chenier. It is extraordinary from top to bottom, and though it
suffers from similar colleague inadequacies as Callas' Violetta, it is
the Tebaldi studio performance I have most enjoyed.

She is, in a word, stupendous!

The Metropolitan Opera Guide to recorded opera - ""La mamma morta" is
certainly finer than any of the singing in her later studio recordings".
Amen
to that.

Odd that none of her admirers even bothered to mention it with all this
Cetra talk.

Bob
