One perhaps obvious choice is Marc-Antoine Charpentier's David et 
Jonathas.  It was performed a few years ago and very well done for that 
matter by an early music group in Cambridge MA.  The instrumental 
ensemble was wonderful.  Wikipedia says " Jonathan is mortally wounded 
and dies in David's arms".
