Forsooth Opera Lovers!

Today we can celebrate the birthdays of:

Heddle Nash (1894-1961)
Rudolf Kempe (1910-1976)
John McCormack (1884-1945)

Also, the following works premiered on this date:

Bruch's "Die Loreley" (1862)
Delibes' ballet "Sylvia" (1876)
Gliere's ballet "The Red Poppy" (1927)

Let us remember Giacinto Prandelli (1914-2010) and Carlo Maria Guilini
(1914-2005) who joined Heaven's Choir on this date.

The quote for today is: "I live again the days and evenings of my long
career. I dream at night of operas and concerts in which I have had my
share of success. Now like the old Irish minstrel, I have hung up my
harp because my songs are all sung." John McCormack.

A delightful McCormack/Caruso anecdote: McCormack by chance encountered
Caruso during a leisure walk. McCormack greeted Caruso with..."How's
the world's greatest tenor today?" To wit Caruso replied, "Caro
Giovanni, since when did you become a baritone?"

As always, a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our birthday artists for today and
