Forsooth Opera Lovers!

Today we can celebrate the birthdays of Rise Stevens(1913-2013) and
Richard Strauss (1864-1949).

Also, the following works premiered on this date:

Smetana's "Libuse" (1881)
Honegger's "Judith" (1925)
Donizetti's "Don Gregorio" (1826)
Offenbach's "Barvard et Barvarde" (1862)
Britten's "A Mid Summer Night's Dream" (1960)

Let us remember Rafael Frubeck De Burgos (1933-2014) who joined Heaven's
Choir on this date.

The quote for today is: "To write music is to raise a ladder without a
wall to lean it against. There is no scaffolding: the building under
construction is held in balance only by the miracle of a kind of
internal logic, an innate sense of proportion." Arthur Honegger.
