Perhaps, Frank, it's that people are discouraged to go to the opera here, knowing (from your postings here) that everything significant is happening elsewhere.
Just a thought.

in opera popularity in America. There's no evidence of a similar trend in Europe. =
 Is this part of a larger problem?
