Yes, indeed!

First time opera was carried only on cable-television and first use of
low-light-level cameras to shoot in existing performance conditions --
John Goberman's (who later created "Live from Lincoln Center") first
television hit.

On the TelePrompTer cable system (northern Manhattan) it came in
second in viewership to a movie on ABC.  It beat (in order) CBS, WNEW
(now Fox), and all other channels.
