Encores

Lamento di Federico

Land of the Smiles (Dein ist mein ganzes herz)

Nessun Dorma

In my 60 plus years of attending live Opera, recitals and concerts, only in a handful of occasions I felt the presence of greatness.

The first one was at a recital by Gigli in Buenos Aires in 1951.The last one was last night at Michael Fabiano's recital.

If there is such a thing as a Tenore Assoluto, Strauss' Morgen sang by Fabiano with exquisite mezza voce reminiscent of Gedda

and his passionate rendition of "Torna ai Felici Di, qualifies him as such. I felt in love with his voice after hearing his "Tutto Parea Sorridere"

from Verdi's Il Corsaro in YouTube. In my opinion, Fabiano, as Bergonzi, excels in early Verdi as demonstrated by his reading of "Quando le Sere al PLacido"

The size of his voice cannot be assessed since the Broad Stage theater has only 490 seats, but by comparison to two other tenors that I heard at this

venue, Fabiano and Beczala voices size are comparable, both larger than Grigolo.

After Nessun Dorma , a tenor drunken audience requested more encores, but Fabiano's body language (both hands up and flexing his fingers (By,BY) indicated

that the show was over.
