I agree with Bob Rideout! - "Opera related issues" may be construed as
encompassing almost everything - opera after all touches most aspects of
life and society. Historical questions may be raised in relations to
almost all non-contemporary operas, f.i. the French Revolution
(Chenier), Napoleon (War and Peace), The Bartholomew Night (Huguenots),
The Inquisition (Don Carlo(s)), ancient Rome (Norma) and so on and so
forth. Politics, f.i. questions of State subsidy of the arts or musical
education will often be opera related, as will moral issues. If in
doubt, it must be better to allow postings on such topics than to bar
them, as many will be read with interest; the list members have very
different backgrounds both geographically and otherwise, and will
probably be happy to get new insights, albeit of peripherical connection
to opera.
