Olivero had about one hundred voices. No consistency in production, just
whatever it took to get the note out or through a role. I saw her in person
several times and was captivated with her performances. To listen to her in
a recording is a different story. That strange flutter is one of the
issues.
Gencer had a fairly long career, and despite that glottal stroke there was
great beauty in the voice. She also assumed a sizeable number of diverse
roles.
Galvany had an interesting career and went from Lucia to Amneris. She
carried the chest voice to alarming heights, and probably paid the price, but
boy you sat up and took notice when she took the gloves off. Her Abigaille
comes to mind.

Is there any voice more enduring that the iron throated Magda Olivero?
