Two comments.  Did you notice how he left out the two 'aux armes' to prepare
for the last one with the high C, just as Manrico's do with 'Corro a
salvarti' in the 'Pira'?  The composers knew what they were doing, even if,
in Rossini's case, he was not being very kind to his tenor.  There is
definitely something missing harmonically when these excisions are made.

Also, a completely idle question about fees.  Can a singer negotiate a
higher rate at the Met. for a part that finds the world with a tenor who can
sing it about once every forty years?
