Alex Ross just tweeted the following:  "I don't suppose it needs to be pointed out 
that Gerald Finley is one of the greatest singers alive. His art goes ever deeper."

Actually, it does need to be pointed out. In the general bla bla that goes on with 
opera groups who endlessly argue about and rate their "stars," giants like Finley 
and Antonacci who strive to grow their art and challenge their audience get barely 
a mention. This growth and challenge is, of course, what great art is about. Opera 
has always had a problem with "fans" who banalize the art.
