LIVE STREAM: THU, 22 DEC 2016, 8 P.M. (BERLIN TIME)
New York: 2 p.m. / Tokyo: Fri, 23 Dec 2016, 4 a.m.

To set the mood for the broadcast, here is an excerpt from yesterday’s
performance.
It is almost a miniature opera: the first act of Richard Wagner’s Die
Walküre, in which Siegmund, Sieglinde and Hunding encounter each other in
tense and exciting scenes. Simon Rattle will present this musical chamber
play with a first-class ensemble of singers experienced in Bayreuth,
consisting of Eva-Maria Westbroek, Simon O’Neill and John Tomlinson. The
evening will kick off with Wagner’s gossamer Siegfried Idyll.

Only until 31 December: Musikfest Berlin in the Digital Concert Hall
This year, for the first time, the Digital Concert Hall broadcast Musikfest
Berlin: a festival which combines original programming, with top-class
performances by international guests. The performances by Musikfest’s guest
orchestras are available for viewing in the archive of the Digital Concert
Hall – but only until the end of the year. In addition to well-known
conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, Valery Gergiev and Daniel Harding,
there are also concerts by the three major Munich symphony orchestras,
among others. This offers a wonderful opportunity to get to know the future
chief conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker, Kirill Petrenko, who
conducts the Bayerisches Staatsorchester in works by Strauss, Bartók and
Wagner.

Also this week on BBC RADIO 3
Repeats of the Berlin Phil last appearance at the BBC Proms with Sir Simon
conducting.

Best regards,
Elizabeth
