Thanks for recommending his gem. 
 Inputs like yours makes it worthwhile to participate in this forum. 
Del Monaco was unique in carrying the chest voice all the way up to a B natural without 
sounding muscular or throaty.

When several years ago I asked Evelyn Sachs what the most memorable opera performance was she ever witnessed she said it was Del Monaco's Met debut as Des Grieux. 
From around the same time here he is live from Mexico where the audience at least didn't consider him the 'boogeyman'. 
Verismo singing every tenor today can only dream of. Moreover if you think the "boogeyman" is overdoing it try Bergonzi live (opposite Kirsten) not the great stylist either but playing to the galleries.
