Hi, Everyone:
Before I leave to join my family for dinner today, I feel that I need
to post this. I was doing a lot of thinking today, and I realize more than
ever how lucky the relatively few of us (in comparison to the general
population) are to have been blessed with the capacity to truly love great
music -------- most especially the art of opera. I'd have to say that
opera has been my best and closest friend since I was in elementary school
(and I will forever thank my parents for that). That's a pretty long time
ago, but it's proven to be a gift that has kept giving and one that has
crossed the decades.
Obviously, not everyone possesses the capacity to experience opera. I
have many wonderful friends whom I cherish, but opera is not something I can
share with them simply because they don't have this particular ability to
appreciate that which we call opera. With some of the disagreements and
arguments on this Board notwithstanding, I've come to realize that OPERA L
has taught me a lot, given me a lot to "chew on", and has encouraged me to
do a lot of research on operas and operatic artists. There are a lot of
very intelligent and bright people who post here, and I am thankful for all
of that. It has enabled me to grow further in my love of opera and of
sublime classical singing in general.
As I said, it's the gift that keeps on giving, as is opera itself.
Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving (good luck on Black Friday, if
you dare venture it!) and a wonderful holiday season.
