Secondly, Pavarotti and Price sang together at the Met Gala for precisely the reason you cite 
but to entirely different effect. That pairing came about because they never shared the 
stage at the Met.  But he adored her and I never heard her speak of him with anything 
other than affection.  He praised her SF Aidas to the skies!  

And perhaps the fact that they sang so little together is because  for most of their 
respective primes, their reps did not overlap.  When they did, they sang together - like in 
the famous Salzburg Trovatores from '77.  Or the Scala Requiem under Herbert von
