Nice story from Virginia Zeani, possibly the best, the nicest and certainly the most beautiful of sopranos, about to celebrate her 91st birthday. When she was teaching at Indiana, a young tenor came to her. She advised him to go into the lighter repertoire, operetta, etc. He did so, and became Andrea Bocelli. Last July, Zeani's native Romania held a huge celebration (6,000 people) in her honor. Bocelli told them he had named his two year old daughter Virginia, for her.
Youtube has many excerpts of Zeani's art. You will see what I mean if you watch.
Ariane
