Maryland Opera Studio at the University of Maryland recently did a Fledermaus 
where they sung in German and talked in English. It worked well. The production 
was far superior to the one at the MET. Even with three party pieces in the 
second act the show lasted just under three hours. I don't think they cut any 
songs. Of course, the MET has better voices.
