Subject: Re: the "Assoluta" - Caballé

text/plain (20 lines)

I would also think that of relatively recent sopranos, Montserrat Caballé probably
most deserve the "assoluta" title. She sang Strauss (Salome, Arabella, the
Marschallin), Mozart, a lot of Donizetti and Bellini, the standard Puccini but also
Turandot, even the most dramatic of Verdi, Wagner (Sieglinde, Isolde etc), Handel
(Cleopatra), the French repertoire (Manon, Cleopatre etc) etc.
