Let me see if I understand this.

You are saying that the plot would be LESS wacky if the man hid at the 
bottom of the lake and then emerged WITH supernatural intervention? <g>


Well, I was happy to see Simon B listed. It is for me also the least 
comprehensible plot, certainly the most incoherent in terms of structure and 
motivation following through  (and I am not talking about the Prologue).
