"I wasn't at this famous Friday night performance but if indeed all happened
as reported was Heppner heavily booed at the end? Cracking on one high note
can happen and no singer is perfect but if it was as horrible as they say he
should have been booed off stage."

Heppner was booed by some at the end, not many. Most in the audience showed
him respect, the kind of respect he failed to show the audience for 3 and
half hours.

Had this happened in Regio di Parma or La Scala of course, he wouldn't have
been allowed to continue. There are cases in the colorful history of opera
in Italy of tenors being killed by the mafia after a performance just
because they stank. Woody Allen's Bullets Over Broadway makes reference to that.

In America, singers rarely get booed, most Americans (not 100%) are socially
repressed and/or wouldn't know good or bad opera singing if it hit them in
the face. Though in this case, it wasn't just bad singing, it was depravity.
