I would not advise driving into Manhattan at any time of day or nite if you
have the choice. The traffic is bad most any time during the day. Yes, there
are places to park, but they are very expensive. There is a parking garage
right under the Met. But if you are going to be in Newark, you are close
enough that you could easily take public transportation. You could take the
NJ Transit trains or busses, which take you to the Port Authority bus and
train station at 42nd street. The trains are by far the quickest way to get
to Manhattan from Newark. From Port Authority you can easily take a bus or
subway up to Lincoln Center. If, in the end, you do decide to drive, give
yourself plenty of time for the drive, way more time than you think it will
take. Although the distance is not far, you will encounter a lot of traffic
and delays. If you drive, you should allow at least 2 hours for the drive.
Good luck!
