In Response to a message that was sent regarding the creation a this new
festival.

Firstly, the final day of this Festival will be "Straight Ally Day" where we
will feature the works and talents of non-GLBT individuals that support GLBT
Artists. However, key word...ALLIES. One straight ally was the 2007 Academy
Award (R) winner for Best Documentary. She has actually sent us her PERSONAL
wishes for good luck, which is saved in email.

The Arts are generally regarded as welcoming to GLBT individuals, but often,
cases prove that it is not. Stephen Hough, for example, had his tour
canceled a couple of years ago, because he, being an openly Gay man, and a
Catholic, had a blog with strong opposition of goings on within religious
organizations. A gay man who was a member of the Buffalo Orchestra had dealt
with extreme discrimination from a fellow player and had to resign because
it so bad. Church Musicians are often sending cases of grievance to the
American Guild of Organists for loss of employment because of their
orientation. GLBT People of color that are in the hip hop and pop music
genres are heavily laden with being closeted and in the "down low" scene.

The City and local government have also started to join hands because of the
tremendous impact this will have on the city. Local tourism boards, city
officials, etc have already The board for this festival is meeting next week
to vote on wether or not to make it a national festival, because the
momentum that has been built is so tremendous.

The American Composers Forum actually thanks us for thinking of them, when
we sent them the call for submissions for their lists and members. They even
offered to forward it to regional chapters.

Though there is concern from a lister, I do believe that many are very
excited about this event. and yes, we do welcome our Straight Allies!

Best,
T. Desiree Hines
Philadelphia
